DESCRIPTION:CROSSroads Workshop SeriesCROSSroads 12 – Characterizing the structure and functionality of inhomogeneous materials using quantum beams\n16-17 September 2014\, IQBRC\, Tokai \nSelf-organizing processes in inhomogeneous and non-equilibrium systems often follow simple laws. A typical example is a self-similar structure that develops over a wide range of length scales. So-called "multiscale science"\, that deals with hierarchical structures and their fluctuations\, has recently gained much attention due to new functional materials comprised of nano-structures in inhomogeneous systems that have been developed. \nAlthough the response from inhomogeneous systems can be complicated\, we expect that the structures\, fluctuations and reaction mechanisms of new functional materials can be revealed by advanced quantum beam experimental methods. \nThis workshop aims to promote communication and collaboration among scientists involved in basic\, applied and instrumental research.
